[Contents] In the mid-1980s, Group A touring car racing was hugely popular worldwide. Developed to win in that category, the 2nd-generation GT-R, introduced in 1989, dominated the field.
The 2nd-generation GT-R evolved through the BNR32, based on the 8th-generation Skyline, the BCNR33, based on the 9th-generation Skyline, and finally the BNR34, based on the 10th-generation Skyline.
This Hot Wheels model is based on the BCNR33. Because the 9th-generation Skyline GT-R that served as its base had an extended wheelbase, width, and length for improved cabin space, the body did grow larger overall; however, weight gain was kept to a minimum, and improved body rigidity along with expertly tuned suspension refined its dynamic performance even further.
Since the following 10th-generation Skyline shrunk the body once again, the BCNR33's spacious interior and other qualities have made it more favored than the BNR32 in America.
