[Contents] The Skyline was released in 1957 as the flagship model of Prince Motor Company, before it was absorbed into Nissan. The company had long put effort into motorsports to showcase its technical prowess, and one of the highlights of that effort was the GT, a competition vehicle based on the 2nd-generation Skyline.
The 2nd-generation Skyline was a fuel-efficient family sedan with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, but to win the 2nd Japanese Grand Prix, Prince Motor Company somewhat forcibly extended the body to fit the powerful 2-liter 6-cylinder engine from its large luxury sedan, the Gloria, building about 100 units of the GT to obtain homologation.
Despite entering the 2nd Japanese Grand Prix fully prepared, the overall victory was taken by a Porsche 904 brought in by a privateer, but the Skyline GT swept the rest of the top positions. Since then, the Skyline GT has been beloved by car enthusiasts to this day as synonymous with the high-performance sedan.
Hot Wheels recreates this car with brand-new tooling. The color scheme is based on the machine of driver #39 Yoshikazu Sunako, who finished 2nd in the GT-II class behind the Porsche in the 2nd Japanese Grand Prix.
