[Contents] In the early 1980s, "kaido racer" style car modification became a massive trend among car-loving Japanese youth. The basic idea was to modify cars to imitate race cars built specifically for circuit racing, with engine and exterior changes.
At the time, legally modifying cars was difficult, so these were essentially illegal modifications, carrying a strong outlaw image.
Particularly popular among kaido racer enthusiasts were the wide tires and wheels used on race cars, along with the overfenders fitted to cover them. It was Liberty Walk, based in Aichi Prefecture, that spread this old-school modification method worldwide in the 2000s by combining it with modern supercars and sports cars.
This 35GT-R has been customized beyond recognition with silhouette-style fenders inspired by the Group 5 regulation race cars (Silhouette Formula) defined by the FIA, which were extremely popular worldwide in the 1980s.
