[Contents] The Sunny Truck, commonly known as "Sunitora," was introduced in 1967 as a variant of Nissan's mass-market Sunny. Its rear section was reworked into a truck bed, giving it a 500kg load capacity.
Hot Wheels chose as its subject the 2nd-generation Sunny Truck, introduced in 1971. The 2nd generation proved to be a long-lived model, remaining in production until 1994 in Japan and 2008 overseas.
While the Sunny Truck was originally a commercial vehicle, it was also fun to drive, and once it became a used car, it became beloved as a "hobby vehicle" for tuning the engine and customizing the body.
Meanwhile, the Nissan Hardbody model is based on the export version of the D21, known in Japan as the 9th-generation Datsun Truck, imagined here in a "slammed" stance with the ride height lowered to the extreme, finished in the traditional American "truckin'" custom style that gives pickup trucks a pop, sporty image.
