[Contents] The GT-R debuted in 1969 as the high-performance grade of the third-generation Skyline. Equipped with a 2.0-liter DOHC inline-six engine derived from racing cars—an exceptionally high-spec engine for a Japanese car at the time—it proved unbeatable in touring car racing.
The GT-R grade was also offered on the fourth-generation Skyline, but disappeared for a time without competing in races due to the impact of emissions regulations. The GT-R remained absent for a while, but returned in 1989 on the eighth-generation Skyline, with the aim of winning FIA Group A touring car races, which were thriving in Japan and abroad at the time. Equipped with a 2.6-liter DOHC inline-six twin-turbo engine and full-time 4WD, the GT-R dominated so thoroughly that no other car stood a chance, effectively bringing Group A touring car racing to an end.
This Hot Wheels release is a new-tooling model debuting in the "Modern Classics" lineup. It recreates the BNR32-chassis GT-R from the eighth-generation Skyline, fitted with bolt-on overfenders and a "Pandem" body kit from the globally popular manufacturer "TRA Kyoto."
