Hot Wheels Car Culture Japan Historics 4 '72 Toyota Corolla Levin Vehicle Toy Mini Car Ages 3+ Orange HRV69
[Contents] The origins of today’s GR86 can be traced back to the sporty Levin and its sister car, the Sprinter Trueno, which debuted in 1972 as high-performance models of the second-generation Corolla.
They were developed by fitting the 1.6-liter DOHC engine from the higher-class Celica GT specialty car into a two-door version of the compact, mass-market Corolla. This was intended to meet the growing demand for motorsports (rallying and circuit racing) as these competitions began gaining popularity in Japan in the 1970s. The bolt-on overfenders fitted to all four wheels set them apart visually from a standard Corolla.
Although this car was sold exclusively in Japan, its successor, the AE86 Levin and its sister car, the Sprinter Trueno, have since become world-famous, and the original model is now regarded as a legendary car around the globe. In Japan, it is often called the “Ni-Nana Levin” (“27 Levin”), after its TE27 model code.
Hot Wheels recreates this car with all-new tooling, customized with a rear spoiler and chin spoiler. Note that the car’s name is written in Japanese on the card.
