Its successor debuted in 2021, but its name was changed to GR86 when it became an exclusive model of Toyota's high-performance vehicle brand. The Toyota 86/GR86 was designed with motorsports use in mind, and one-make races (Cups) featuring the car are held in Japan, the United States, and other countries, drawing plenty of attention. Hot Wheels chose as its inspiration the race car of Toni Breidinger, a talented and beautiful female driver competing in North America's GR Cup. It is a Cup car modified for racing.
