[Contents] The GT-R was introduced in 1969 as the high-performance grade of the 3rd-generation Skyline. Fitted with a 2-liter inline-6 DOHC engine derived from racing cars -- an incredibly high spec for a Japanese car of the time -- it proved unbeatable in touring car racing.
The GT-R grade was also offered on the 4th-generation Skyline, but it disappeared for a time without entering racing due to the impact of emissions regulations. An era without the GT-R continued for a while afterward, but in 1989 the GT-R grade returned on the 8th-generation Skyline, aiming for victory in FIA Group A touring car racing, which was thriving both in Japan and abroad at the time. Armed with a 2.6-liter inline-6 DOHC twin-turbo engine and full-time 4WD, the GT-R showed overwhelming dominance, ultimately proving so strong that no machine other than the GT-R stood a chance, effectively driving Group A touring car racing to its end.
This Hot Wheels release is a new-tooling item debuting in this "Modern Classics" lineup, recreating the BNR32-chassis GT-R from the 8th-generation Skyline fitted with the bolt-on over-fenders and "Pandem" body kit from the globally popular manufacturer "TRA Kyoto."
